yeah,it simply grew faster than they expected, if you look at the steam charts from june to july they had a + of nearly 90k player on average.

EDIT: Apparently survivor crates (bit more rare) you can sell for €2,80 and normal crates you can sell for €1,70. Looking at how much gold a crate costs:
1st Crate: 700 BP
2nd Crate: 1,400 BP
3rd Crate: 2,800 BP
4th Crate: 4,200 BP
5th Crate: 5,600 BP
6th and subsequent Crates: 7,000 BP

and that earning about 300 BP on average, this is pretty good money making

The funds add to your "Steam Wallet" with which you can buy anything on Steam. You can't legally pull it off Steam though. However, there seem to be shady ways of doing it via investing in let's say CS:GO skins, moving them on some CS:GO skin portal, selling the skins on the CS:GO portal, and by this basically moving your funds there. Then you can move those funds from their page to your PayPal account. Afaik.

also, people spend money on cosmetics in a game they play and other players supply them with the shit they want to buy. The devs get money from the keys, that's a pretty good model and the skin prices are determined by the market and the drop rates.
