HALP

Postby Dr_Slartibartfart » 08 Nov 2017 10:35

So today I tried turning on my PC, sadly enough it didn't. I need to mention that when I turned off my PC yesterday it made some weird ass noises through my headset, like grinding/crackling. The pc got power, but it didn't give any output to my screens, so when tried to turn it off again by pressing the off switch on my case it didn't. So I had to turn off my PC via the PSU power switch.

I got no clue what this can be, I undusted the bit of dust that was there, on the Mobo or any other parts are no signs of burn through shit. I switched out ram sticks to see if it could be the ram, it didn't do anything. I tried uncoupling my SSD and HDD and testing them one by one. This didn't do anything either.

If any of you guys got suggestions /ideas of what it might be. Please help.

My PC build:
AMD FX-6300 3.50GHz 6MB AM3+ Box
Asus Geluidskaart Xonar DG 5.1 PCI
Cooler Master Voeding B500 V2 500W
Crucial 2x8GB, DDR3, 1600MHz, CL9, Ballistix Sport
MSI ATX Moederbord 970A-G43
Samsung SSD 750 EVO 2.5", 250GB
Seagate Harddisk 3.5" Desktop HDD ST1000DM003 1TB
Zotac Videokaart GeForce GTX 970 4GB

What is the feedback of the system when you turn it on? Does it beep? Are the fans turning?

The case fans turn on, but GPU can turns on and then off again, so that might be something.

Any bluescreen before the last functioning boot?

Can you try resetting your BIOS?

Edit: you have an internal gpu to test?

I meant by resetting the CMOS. So you just remove the battery for 1 minute or so.

Else there should be instructions available for your BIOS in a manual if youre not sure about what to do or if there is another method of resetting.

My Mobo has a jumper, but I lost the jumper thing needed for it. Irl friend of mine also said that the chance that it is bios is pretty low because it was working before.so probably hardware. ATM I'm gonna switch PSU to see if that helps.

It just surprises me that theres no signal to your display, so my guess is its something with the board.

I tried new PSU, didn't change anything. I will now see if someone from my school has a jumper for me which I can use. Otherwise I'll just buy one.

Remove ram, gpu, ssd, etc. and put them back in one by one starting with gpu.

You got integrated graphics? Start without everything and put your monitor to this. See if bios splash screen appears.

Those FX shitty CPUs don't have integrated GPUs so that's not something he can do.
My guess is the mobo is borked.

only thing left that can be broken is the mobo given that slarti already exchanged all important parts like ssd/gpu and psu. is there any massive ocing involved?
did you check your power socket tho with another device - sth around 400w consumption like mircowave f.e.?

last tipp; remove soundcard - those drivers can cause pure havoc.

ps: use a bent paperclip as jumper, should work 9/10

If you did and mentioned it, sorry.

I did OC my CPU with like 0,4ghz. From 3.6 to 4ghz. But I assumed a big as fuck fan and heatsink for CPU would be enough with 2 case fans by now. I use one of those powerstrips with short-circuit prevention. And I used the same power cable from my PC to power up another old PC. The screens also worked on that pc, so I'm afraid I did indeed fry my Mobo.

As long as you did what brati said you can be pretty sure the mobo caused the problem.
How old is the PSU though? I might be making this up but I think I read somewhere that their power output degrades over time...
