Motorsport autims

We have one topic for football and quite some motorsport enthusiasts(/autimsts)

Why not have a thread for motorsport related stuff as well?

With the first F1 race of 2019 tomorrow: What's you oppinion on qualifying?

Image

I expected merc to be more competitive in comparison to pre season testing in melbourne, but this is honestly shocking. Are we in for a ResidentSleeper race at the front?

But the midfield looks like it'll be really close. Places 10-18 in 0.2 seconds sounds promising. Also a strong first qualifying from Lando Norris. Do you think he'll keep up? What are your thoughts on williams?

Why is Williams still using pre-season cars? :(

congrats to loin for his 3000th post <3

You know that you have not been paying attention to F1 for a couple of years when you only recognize half the drivers and ask yourself wtf Alfa Romeo is doing in F1 and what the hell Haas and Racing Point are (and why Haas has apparently the third best car) LUL

Alfa - Sauber renamed
Racing Point - Force India renamed
Haas - Started in 2016

Haas is a middle pack team with ferrari PU's (I think everybody who follows the sports agrees that the top 3 cars are Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull). You're probably wondering now what is a top 3 car doing so low in the quali standins? RB fucked up with Gasly, didn't anticipate the track improving so rapidly towards the end of Q1 and because of that Gasly only got one fast lap in.

Regarding quali results, last year was pretty much the same (In regards to the difference in quali times). The thing that worries is me that Ferrari received a floor overhaul last year to Bahrain which improved the car massively (And cut down the gap to Mercs) and there has been no report of such upgrade coming this year. Sorta hoping the reports about Ferrari running low downforce setup (Like what RB has been doing the past few years) + engine in safe mode are true. Because if not, unless you're into F1.5, it might be a boring year (Unless Verstappen pulls something out of the hat and also while Leclerc having a top team spot is exciting, I dont see him challenging Vettel already this year).

Also jesus christ Williams, Kubica said he crashed into the wall because the car "was working as expected"

Write a script that automatically marks the topic as read?

But I really am interested in the race tomorrow. Cuz if verstappen can catch up to the Mercedeses it would be amazing. They could cuz verstappen said that they didn't feel on point with their setup yet in qualifying. So if they fix that for the race it would be dank.

Ricciardo has bad RNG in Melbourne as per. Obviously he made a mistake but the grass decided to punish him by doing 300 module damage to his front wing. F1 cars don't use repair kits obviously so go figure...
Fuck this retarded physics engine btw, F1 2018 did it way better.

When it comes to tyre degradation, Verstappen rolled snake eyes like he always does, which allowed him to attempt an overtake on Hamilton later in the race.

Interestingly, Bottas opted for the 'Sport Psychologist' strategy. This allowed him to take two extra dice when rolling for race start.

Spoiler:
Kubica LUL

Anyways, I don't think the first half of the season is going to be very exciting. Later in the season when teams tend to get closer to Mercedes performance-wise, the races should become rather interesting.

Personally, I'm more interested in seeing VET/LEC/VER battle than the HAM/BOT battle, although the latter could be a generous source of drama. >:D

Well verstappen already got close to Hamilton. Could see them fighting quite a bit on other circuits

There was some speculation on the cause of Ferrari's lack of pace https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comme ... ower_unit/

Ricciardo did some small front wing adjustments to his car after the race started

What's the ruling actually? If you fit a completely new front wing does it have to be identical to the one you used in qualifying?
