My playlist didn't yet have Dutch rap. Nice

I remember reading about Hugh Laurie putting out an album, but didn't get around to listening it, until now.
Turns out that there were two albums now. They are pretty nice. On the second album I especially liked the songs with Gaby Moreno, like this

This is gonna be a special edition of what music has slart found to give marliini something to spend time on :)

We are gonna start with different things from artists I have posted a song from before.
phpBB [video]

This is from Brihang again. This song I discovered when listening to his albums. I listened to them at night with my IEMs while sleeping and was just a good 2 hours of outerbody experiences. The details in his fairly minimalistic songs are amazing. They also really have a really strong mood around them which you just get chilled out in.

Next one is tinariwen:
phpBB [video]

Posted a KEXP performance of them before, but they just swing so hard, it's great. They just invented their own style of blues and its amazing.

This song I might have posted before, but I just cant find if I did or not:
phpBB [video]

Lets just say Corey Tailor is gud and this classic is great :)

Then we move to something which is similar:
phpBB [video]

It's a classic that I really love and this live performance of it is really nice

Now we go to the genre of le french:
phpBB [video]

Charles Aznavour, this boi is so gud. The vibrato is so well used that it gives a good feeling with the song but doesn't ruin it by overdoing it. Just an amazing singer and song

Then we go to the chill english shit I found while having tidal on trackradio. not much to say about them as I have not dived down the holes of the artists yet:
phpBB [video]

phpBB [video]

phpBB [video]

will add more things when I find them :)

Totally forgot "a few" songs that really are good.

Agnes Obel is a singer my dad let me listen to. Her atmosphere is really strong and catches you.
phpBB [video]

A genre I dont often listen to, but Iain matthews and The Devil Makes Three are nifty as loin would say.
phpBB [video]

phpBB [video]

Then we got a dutch band of which I don't really understand how they haven't had international success yet because, damn they are good. Saw them live a few years ago and it was just amazing. (dont mind the cheesy as fuck video clip)
phpBB [video]

if you like weird songs, with probably one of the bass players that walked this earth. You'll like primus
phpBB [video]

Sting made an album, where he sings songs which John Dowland has written (1500s). Let's just say this whole album is a masterpiece, but this song in particular is amazing.
phpBB [video]

Sea shanties are something I really enjoy as it just feels great to sing along with them and David Coffin is the person which always just nails the songs every time. If I ever could choose who's voice I could take over, it would be his. Imma link them all because some bangers are difficult to find :)

Re: stronk tunes

Postby Marliini » 01 Mar 2021 11:08

Last week I was given the opportunity to focus solely on listening music. I put my spotify premium to good use and listened to some albums. I'll share the albums I listened to. I listened to full albums because I had all the time in the world. I will list the albums by performer in alphabetical order, because we like LISTS and ORDER. Maybe add few words for some albums.

A

Spoiler:
Ad Infinitum - Chapter I – Monarchy
Angéle - Brol. Probably Slart's recommendation from while back. Dig it
Amyl and the Sniffers - Amyl and the Sniffers. One my of recent favourites
Apocalyptica - Inquisition Symphony
Aznavour, Charles - La Bohéme (Remastered 2014) Recommended by Slart and dad

B
Spoiler:
BEHM - Draaman kaari viehättää. One the new Finnish hits. Had the time so I figured to check her album. Way too sweet(romance and heartbreak stuff) for me. But I like her persona. Keeps herself to herself, unlike just about everyone else who after tiniest amount of fame is in every reality.
Blind Guardian Twilight Orchestra - Legacy of the Dark Lands
Blur- Blur. Blur
Brihang - Casco. Nice

C
Spoiler:
Celeste - Not Your Muse (Deluxe Edition). I like her deep and husky voice. There and there is she doing too commercial and mainstream. Or is she just that good that her voice is everywhere.
The Corries - The Compact Collection. Scottish folk <3
The Corries - Traditions

D
Spoiler:
Del the Funky Homosapien - Future Development. Also known from Gorillaz's hit Clint Eastwood
Diawara, Fatoumata - Fatou. Got to know her from Gorillaz
Disclosure - ENERGY. Some artists I knew had songs on the album so I checked them out. I wasn't really in a party mood, but got through the album.
Dropkick Murphys - Signed and Sealed in Blood. Celtic Punk

E
Spoiler:
Elbow - Giants of All Sizes. White noise white heat.

F
Spoiler:
Ferrer, Ibrahim - Ibrahim Ferrer (Buena Vista Social Club presents) When you see Buena Vista Social Club you know it's good
Florence + The Machine - Ceremonials
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand. Old favourite
Froukje - Licht En Donker. Nice. Don't understand a word, but nice.

G
Spoiler:
Ghost - Meliora
Gorillaz - Song Machine, Season One: Strange Times (Deluxe). Gorillaz is a really old favourite. I think the first CD I ever bought was Gorillaz. Also a great gateway drug.

H
Spoiler:
Hilltop Hoods - The Great Expanse. Aussie Hip-Hop legends

K
Spoiler:
The Kinks - Muswell Hillbillies. Have a cuppa and hear about the dangers of Alcohol. Do I remember a description of the Kinks as like Beatles but with an actual message.

L
Spoiler:
Laibach- Spectre. A friend linked me Opus Dei way back. Been an interesting ride since. Whistleblowers, No History, Eurovision good, Bossanova my favourite
Laibach- Wat. Tanz with Laibach
Laurie, Hugh - Didn’t it Rain
Laurie, Hugh - Let Them Talk (Special Edition)

M
Spoiler:
Madvillain- Madvillainy. Hip-Hop Classic. Rip MF DOOM
Marling, Laura - Song For Out Daughter. I'm a fan of her voice and especially the first two albums. Now I had the time check her newer stuff.
Felix Mendelssohn, Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan - Symphonies Nos. 3 “Scottish” & 4 “Italian”; Overture “The Hebrides”
Moonchild Sanelly - Nüdes. Gorillaz took me here, but wasn't my cup of tea. The only album I didn't finish
Mozart - Requiem (Wiener Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Helga Muller-Molinari, Vinson Cole, Paata Burchuladze, Wiener Singverein). Not to listen after putting on the eye drops since they are immediately wasted, at least for me.
Muraoka, Minoru - Bamboo. A gem from 1970. Western songs, jazz played with traditional Japanese instruments.

N
Spoiler:
Nujabes - Modal Soul. An old favourite

O
Spoiler:
Obel, Agnes - Awentine. Thank
Obel, Agnes - Myopia. You
Obel, Agnes - Philharmonics. Slart
Old Blind Dogs - Close to the Bone. More Scottish folk. The only passable version of the Twa Corbies
Ots,Georg - Suosikkilaulaja. Estonian singer, Finnish favourite. At least in my family Midsummer isn't Midsummer if Georg Ots isn't flipping the finger to the Soviets with Saarenmaan Valssi

P
Spoiler:
People under the Stairs - O.S.T. Another hip-hop favourite of mine. Also rip Double K

R
Spoiler:
Raabe, Max - Der Perfekte Moment… wird heut verpennt. Waiting for 'rona end to see them live again.
Ricky-Tick Big Band - Ricky-Tick Big Band. First album of pure jazz before they went to play background for a rapper(???)
The Rosenberg Trio - Roots. Nice Django Reinhardtisque(Gypsy-) Jazz

S
Spoiler:
Schubert: Winterreise - Thomas Quasthoff, Daniel Barenboim). Absolute favourite
Seth Sentry - This Was Tomorrow. Nice Aussie Hip-Hop
Sibelius & Tchaikovsky: Violin Concertos - Soyoung Yoon, Piotr Borkowski, Gorzow Philharmonic Orchestra.
Sleaford Mods - Spare Ribs. In heavy listening recently
slowthai - TYRON
Sting- Songs from the Labyrinth (Tour Edition). Slart probably mentioned this, John Dowland's songs

T
Spoiler:
Taylor, Corey - CMFT
Tinariwen - Elwan. All the albums were great background for me dreaming about Sahara, caravans and camp fires under the stars.
Tinariwen - Emmaar
Tinariwen - Amadjar

V
Spoiler:
Various Artists - Homeward Bound: Sea Songs, Ballads, and Chanteys
Various Artists - Music from the American Epic Sessions (Deluxe). From the documentary where they find an old recording device and invite musicians to record. Back in the old days (ask Paris) there was no autotune. Everyone was in the same room, the volume of instruments was adjusted by moving them closer or further from the microphone. All in one take. Some nice songs, good gateway to bunch of bands and singers.
Viagra Boys - Welfare Jazz. The miracle of something good coming from Sweden. And this is coming from a Finn. Love their videos, the bio on Spotify and most importantly, both their albums
Viagra Boys - Street Worms
Vivaldi: The Four Seasons; L’estro armónico/ Bach: Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 3 & 5; Suite No.3 - Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan. The Four Seasons is another one I can't listen through with dry eyes.

W
Spoiler:
Wende - Quand tu Dors
Wolfmother - Wolfmother

3
Spoiler:
360 - Vintage Modern. More Aussie hip-hop

So, if you're bored or find yourself in a similar predicament you can open the
Spoiler:
spoilers
and throw a dart on your screen and go on a musical trip on wherever the dart lands.

Special thanks for Mettkrieger and especially the resident aficionado Slart for suggestions that helped me get through last week, and hopefully there won't be a part 2 this week.

While cooking I realized I forgot Wolfmother - Wolfmother, the very reason why I am keeping tabs on Aussie music in the first place

I think that brings the total to 61 albums

This song was playing earlier on my Phone (Spotify), and my 3 year old son was vocalizing keeping the rhythm like a boss <3
Obviously, that is not the reason I am actually sharing it here, but because it's a good instrumental, relaxing tune. Marcus D is a gem, really underrated producer in my opinion.

Another chillax song to start the day with. Vanilla is a hell of a producer and he should not miss from the playlist of whoever enjoys instrumental hip hop/lo-fi/chillhop music.

The song sampled by Vanilla is Here's To Life by the amazing Shirley Horn, you can listen a live version of the song here:

This one here is such a good hip hop instrumental - the artist (Miilkbone) didn't get too much success, but this beat is dope and very appreciated to this day. Several producers sampled this one or freestyled on it, a few that come to mind are Logic (sample) or Big L & Jay Z who freestyled in '95 on this beat.
